Jakarta's Flood & The Beauty of Solidarity

Flood in Jakarta is entering new phase. After last week flood is so high in deep, now it remains social problem which need participatory acts.

Through the media reports it is well noted that the Jakarta’s flood this time is disastrous. The city is paralyzed. Tens of thousands of people had to be sheltered at other places temporarily. Foods, blankets, clean water, the needs of toddlers and elderly are in high demand.

While encouraging the public officials to do their best in serving the affected people, we also notice that there are still many who help each other. Some run the ‘boats’. Some help the troubled cars and motorcycles, at least by pushing them to safer areas. Those who help may receive little rewards, but many still provide help for free. It is indeed such a beauty of solidarity among Indonesians in these unfortunate situations.

For those who want to help but can not lend their hands directly on the spots, you may contribute through:

* Dompet Dhuafa Bank Mandiri; Acc. No. 101.000.6475733; Name: Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa

* Urban Poor Consortium (Konsorsium Kemiskinan Kota) BCA KCU Kalimalang; Acc. No. 230-30000-97; Name: Konsorsium Kemiskinan Kota

So, paint your day with the beauty of solidarity!

Jakarta in January-Rain

Greater Jakarta is the heavy rainy day, this morning. It has been rainy since 3 am. As usual, flood and traffics congestion are being the bad effect. In East-Jakarta spot and around, I saw more than 50 cm to 1 meter deep of flood. It has been happening in Kampung Melayu area, Bekasi in some spot, Tambun and the circle and many more. This is a little bit of road along my worked-route. It was certainly more and more spot-flood in other Greater Jakarta.

Fortunately, I stay near Jakarta East Channel that links water flow from settlement to the channel and lastly in Java Sea it was ended up. So, though heavy rain was happened, it has been safe and do not panic with this.

Flood and traffic congestion are the classical problems to Jakarta people. But, it does not mean we are not care. We must have awareness and confidence, starting from ourselves, having a healthy life and passion to change our life for a better.

Here we go!

We & Risa : A Reflection for Parents

Risa was a fifth grader and the youngest child of a scavenger couple. She had complained of pain and suffered from high fever and seizures for three months. She eventually was admitted to the Persahabatan Hospital in East Jakarta on Dec. 29 and remained in a critical condition until she died on Jan. 6, allegedly due to brain inflammation. Doctors treating her discovered severe injuries to the girl’s vagina and rectum that they were probably caused by “a forcefully inserted blunt object”

Risa Case is not one and only. This is a peak of child sexual abuse. It can happen to anyone of our children around us. So, for preventing it, check this tips :

1. Do not ever let our children go and play outside alone. Confirm their friends and with whom they go and play.
2. Complete their bag with hand phone or other for easy communication.
3. Make a banning to play and go after 5 pm. This is important, because most of criminality was happened at night time.
4. Accompany their activities that is placed on remote area.
5. Educate our children with good attitude, positive mind, discipline and build strong mentality & character to heading a problem, even tricky problem.
6. Do you want to share your tips?
